THREE, a Japanese cosmetics brand famous for their organic ingredients, cleansing oil and blushes, discontinued Color Veil for Cheeks before I got my hands on them. The line was replaced in the beginning of 2016 with Cheeky Cheek blushes, currently available in 12 shades (including limited editions). One blush retails for ¥3000+tax/4g (~0.14oz).
Cheeky Cheek blushes
Examining the counter I was little disappointed with the new collection: they swatched sheer and none of the colors appeared that unique or complex to me - except for 05 Feeling The Flow, but I wasn't looking for a purple blush and it was sold out everywhere. I ended up purchasing 06 Fun to Funky and falling in love with the formula, so I asked a friend to purchase me two Summer 2016 limited editions: 10 The Never Ending and 11 Dream of a Day.
Packaging and ingredients
The packaging is minimal, smooth dark grey case with the brand logo. It closes with a secure click, no mirror. I like THREE aesthetics a lot, their packaging is uniform and compliments their philosophy: natural yet up-to-date, translucent and stylish. I couldn't find the whole ingredient list, but they include 7 botanical oils such as tea seed oil, argan, jojoba, primrose, rosehip oils, shea butter and beeswax. All except tea see oil are certified organic.
The Cheeky Cheek blushes are semi-matte, no visible glitter - microshimmer at most. I never thought I'd say this about a blush, but they do feel hydrating. The texture is silky smooth and very unique as the pan itself is soft, but not 'buttery' or kick a lot of powder. They swatched sheer at the counter but I find the the two limited editions 10 The Never Ending and 11 Dream of more pigmented. Using a soft goat hair brush I almost applied the pink shade too heavy-handedly. The finish is like a soft veil with a natural sheen. The color melds into the skin beautifully.
THREE Cheeky Cheek Swatches
Here are the swatches. 06 Fun to Funky is very uncomplicated medium strawberry pink, like a naughty child with pinched apples of the cheeks. 11 Dream of the Day is my current favorite, my cheeks-but-better type of natural peach shade. 10 Never Ending is a beautiful soft marshmallow pink and brightens up my complexion.
To me, THREE depicts the essence of Japanese make up: sheer, chic, natural and luminous. I do find the current color selection a bit boring compared to the old range, but I enjoy their soft, translucent finish a lot. If you want a super soft, heavily pigmented blush these could leave you unimpressed and I recommend Rouge Bunny Rouge instead (review and swatches coming soon!). Have you tried Three blushes?
